Privacy & Visibility
Privacy & Visibility
PersonalTranslator is designed with privacy as the default — translations are only visible to you unless you choose otherwise.
Default Behaviour
By default, every translation is ephemeral — Discord's term for messages that only you can see. They disappear when you dismiss them or reload Discord. Nobody else in the channel, server, or DM can see your translation.
Changing Visibility
Per translation
Add visible:True to any /translate command to post the translation publicly:
/translate text:Bonjour visible:True
Public translations include your name so others know who requested them.
As a default
Use /set-visibility to change your default so you don't have to specify visible every time:
- Private — ephemeral by default (the default setting)
- Public — posted in the channel by default
Context menu translations (Translate this message) are always private regardless of your visibility setting.
What Data We Store
PersonalTranslator stores the following per user:
- Your Discord user ID
- Your preferred and native language settings
- Your token balance and purchase history
- Which languages you've used in which channels (to provide smart language predictions)
- Which servers you've used the bot in
We do not store the content of any messages you translate. Translations are processed and returned to you in real time without being saved.
